Jhumpa Lahiri Tops New York Times Bestseller List
April 18th, 2008 at 10:21 am

Yesterday, Paper Cuts, the New York Times’ lit blog, revealed that Pulitzer Prize-winning author Jhumpa Lahiri’s new collection of stories, “Unaccustomed Earth,” will debut at the peak of the New York Times’ April 20 bestseller list.

For devotees of the short story, the success of Lahiri’s new collection is welcome news. John over at BookFox, curious to find the last short story collection to top the bestseller list, could only find Stephen King’s 2002 horror collection, “Everything’s Eventual,” and before that, James Finn Garner’s re-imagining of familiar fairy tales, “Politically Correct Bedtime Stories.”

To learn more about Jhumpa Lahiri, visit the NEWSHOUR online, where you can read an interview she gave after winning the 2000 Pulitzer Prize for her first story collection, “Interpreter of Maladies,” and another interview she gave after the release of her novel, “The Namesake.”
