This Day in History: The Colbert Report First Airs, Oct. 17, 2005
October 17th, 2008 at 12:21 pm

The fake news program, The Colbert Report, first aired on Comedy Central on October, 17, 2005. Along with The Daily Show, The Colbert Report has developed something of a “cult following” and an influence that goes way beyond its viewership. The show is modeled after TV talk shows such as The O’Reilly Factor and other news programs. The satirical program is reveling in the presidential election and enjoying record ratings, as well as a recent Emmy nod for Best Writing. Check out the first show on Colbert Nation.

Watch a conversation on Charlie Rose with comedian Stephen Colbert, host of “The Colbert Report” about his life and career, the rise of television punditry and his successful partnership with Jon Stewart on “The Daily Show” and “The Colbert Report”.

(Originally aired 12/8/2006)
