The partners from revered graphic design firm Pentagram discuss the numerous places around New York that they’ve put their thumbprint on–how the projects can be viewed as a whole, and specific challenges they face when designing for New York City institutions.
Pentagram has designed for the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Ballet, and the Brooklyn Academy of Music; created packaging for Saks Fifth Avenue and the sign on the new New York Times Building; and conceived of everything from museum exhibitions to the cornerstone of lower Manhattan’s Freedom Tower. Museum curator Donald Albrecht and Pentagram partners Paula Scher, Michael Gericke, and Michael Bierut discuss what it takes to get the hottest assignments in the city.
