Senator Hillary Clinton coasted to a victory on Tuesday over Senator Barack Obama in the West Virginia primary, where the issue of race played an important role. According to exit polls, two in 10 white West Virginia voters said race was an important factor in their votes, reported The New York Times. Robert Rupp, a political historian at West Virginia Wesleyan College, told the Online NewsHour that race is a significant factor in the West Virginia vote, but far from the only factor.

And, while Clinton drew strong support from white, working-class voters in West Virginia, she still has a ways to go to clinch the nomination. The win left Obama with 1,882.5 delegates, to 1,713 for Clinton, out of 2,026 needed to win at the party convention in Denver this summer.
